How to Use CB Radios Like a Trucker
Truckers use their CB radios every day to communicate with other truckers, police, emergency workers and other CB operators. They follow an unwritten code of conduct when using the instrument. Here are a few tips so you can use a CB radio like a trucker.

Turn to channel 9 if there is an emergency that the police need to know about. Channel 9 is monitored by police and they will respond if needed. Channel 19 is most commonly used for ordinary communication.

Warn other truckers about any delays that will require them to slow down. Say "brake check" and tell them what the cause is. For example, a car could be stalled across a lane. This helps other truckers slow down for the hazard and move into a different lane if needed.

Ask other truckers what the weather is like where they've come from, and tell them what the weather is like where you've been. This helps truckers prepare for snow, ice, rain or high winds.

Inform other truckers where they can find the best fuel prices, food, facilities and rest locations. Give clear, accurate directions on the CB radio if you're asked.

Let other truckers know when they've safely passed you and it's safe to pull into the lane. Although many truckers still flick their lights to let the other trucker know it's safe to come back into the lane, many companies discourage this practice.

Announce the presence and location of any police or emergency vehicles on the CB radio. Most truckers use the mile marker system to help others find the location.

Use common courtesy when using the CB radio. Don't interrupt or use foul language. Learn the CB radio codes and jargon that is most commonly used, so others will understand you.

Ok, first of all DO NOT try to use a CB like a trucker, that is just silly. Use it like everyone else.1) I have not heard of anyplace that still monitors Ch9. I am not saying there are none, but I bet you can count them on your fingers. In an emergency use you cell phone and call 911. I have owned a CB shop for the past 25 years, and have also driven over the road trucks. I have not seen any cops monotor a CB in the last decade. And the few that did monitor Ch 19 not 92) Do not say "Break Check" say "There is a car stalled in the fast/slow/car pool etc lane at mile marker (where ever it is)3) You can ask truckers about the weather, but take into consideration the travel time. Just because it was good (or bad) 500 miles away when the driver was there this morning does not mean it still is.
