Handwraps are cotton cloths that range from 1- to 3-inches wide and 10- to 14-feet long. They are used to wrap boxers' hands and protect them from injury. Follow these steps to use boxing handwraps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase handwraps. If you have large hands, buy the longest wraps you can find. If you have small hands, find a wrap that is not bulky so you can make a tight fist while wearing it. Mexican-style boxing handwraps have elastic in the material that gives them a snugger fit.

  2. Step 2

Spread your fingertips a comfortable distance apart. Your palms should face down.

  3. Step 3

Place your thumb in the loop in the handwrap.

  4. Step 4

Wrap your wrist 3 times. Cross the top of your hand and wrap your knuckles once.

  5. Step 5

Using the base of your thumb as an anchor for the wrap, wrap the pinkie and ring fingers. Go back around the thumb and wrap the ring and middle finger. Continue through the thumb and wrap the middle and index fingers.

  6. Step 6

Anchor the handwrap and anchor the knuckles again. Then, place the wrap all the way around the base of the thumb.

  7. Step 7

End at your wrist. Wrap all the remaining materials around your wrist and secure the boxing handwrap with velcro.

Tips & Warnings
  • Handwraps should be snug, but not too tight. If your handwraps are too tight, it actually increases your chance of injury.
  • You can wash your handwraps in a washing machine and hang dry.
