Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

When changing stirrup length from in the saddle you should always keep your feet in the stirrups. this gives you the best balance if the horse happens to spook. halt the horse and place the reins in the hand opposit from the side your changing length.

  2. Step 2

Pull down on the top layer of leather (the end with the buckle) to lower the buckle. Lift your foot slightly still keeping it in the stirrup to have no pressure against the leather. this makes it easier to get the leather moved down. Adjust the length using the buckle.

  3. Step 3

Now the step that usually stumps people you need to get the buckle back up to the top. This can be awkward and difficult using your hands alone. However if you use your leg and the stirrup to help this can be a simple step. Hold the top layer of leather and pull it away from the saddle moving your foot and the stirrup up the bottom layer of leather. Then use your foot to push down on the stirrup. This will pull the bottom layer of leather down and move the buckle up. Continue until the buckle is back at the top.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat on the other side.
