Pocket knives are folding knives typically measuring 3 to 5 inches long. The pocket knife is one of the most useful everyday tools you can own.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean your pocket knife frequently. The pocket knife has numerous small gears and instruments which can easily become caked with all sorts of grime. It's important to be vigilant about keeping the knife clean so that it stays in top working order. Don't wash these knives in a dishwasher. The many joints and mechanisms can store drops of water and rust the knife.

  2. Step 2

Store the knife in a sheath when you are not using it. Any exposure to the elements can harm your knife.

  3. Step 3

Store knife separately from leather sheaths during prolonged periods when the knife is not in use. Leather doesn't absorb moisture which can lead the blade to rust.

  4. Step 4

Keep the locking device on all folding models clean at all times. Make sure that no debris or grime of any sort collects on it.

  5. Step 5

Oil the joints of the knife occasionally to ensure that they aren't rusting and are working smoothly.

  6. Step 6

Keep the knife sharp. When a pocket knife is sharp, there is far less chance that the blade could accidentally slip.
