The Hop Turn in step aerobics is an advanced moves that requires you to turn on the bench and change direction. Follow these steps to turn a difficult step into an easy maneuver.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Aerobics bench
Step1
Start the Hop Turn facing the bench. Step onto the bench with the right foot. Step with the heel first onto the platform followed by the toe. Maintain contact with the bench while lifting the left leg.
Step2
While lifting the left knee, pivot or hop on your right foot. Turn toward the left with the knee lift and end the turn facing the opposite direction from where you began the move.
Step3
Lower the foot to the ground that you just did the knee lift with, which should be the left foot first. This foot doesn't touch the bench; it just hops over the bench. Then step down with the right foot. Now you are on the other side of the step bench and in a position to do movements on that side like knee lifts.
Step4
Practice the Hop Turn move using a simple pivot in the turn before advancing to the hop in the turn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use this step to transition to the other side of the bench.
  • It is also called the pivot turn.
