Step aerobics can be a great way to get a low-impact, cardiovascular exercise at home, and there are many different moves that can be incorporated together for a fun workout. The V-UP aerobic exercise--also known as the V-step--is so named because you create a V with your legs when you are up on the platform.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by standing in front of a step aerobic platform, with your feet together and your toes facing the center of the long side of the platform.

  2. Step 2

Step up onto the platform with your left foot followed by your right. When you're on the platform, your feet should be apart so that the outer edges of both your feet are on the edge of the platform. Stand with your feet about 2 to 3 feet apart.

  3. Step 3

Bring your left foot back down to the floor behind you and toward the center position of the platform. Bring your right foot down next to your left foot so that you are back in your starting position.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the exercise several times, accompanied by upbeat music, for a strong cardiovascular workout.

Tips & Warnings
  • When stepping toward the edges of the platform, keep your entire foot on the platform. Don't hang off the edge.
  • Wear comfortable shoes with good arch support when doing step aerobics. Step flat-footed, and resist the urge to bounce when stepping on and off the platform. Your steps should be soft steps, not stomps.
  • Warm up and cool down before and after any exercise session.
