Step aerobics can be a great way to get a low-impact, cardiovascular exercise at home. There are many different moves that can be incorporated together for a fun workout. In the Over the Top routine, you side-step on and off the platform.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Position the platform so that you are standing next to it, with the outer side of your right foot facing the long side of the platform.

  2. Step 2

Side-step onto the platform with your right foot. Step up with your left foot.

  3. Step 3

Continue to move to your right by stepping down onto the floor with your right foot, and then stepping down with your left foot.

  4. Step 4

Track back to the left. Side-step up onto the step with your left foot, followed by your right. Step down onto the floor by stepping to the left with your left foot, followed by your right. You should be back into your starting position.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the exercise several times on 8 beats for a fast-paced workout.

Tips & Warnings
  • To increase the difficulty of this exercise, hop when your second foot comes onto the step so that only one foot is touching the platform at a time.
  • When stepping onto the platform, stay flat-footed and avoid stepping on the balls of your feet. Make sure your feet are completely on the platform and not partially hanging off the edge.
  • Warm up and cool down before and after every workout session.
