Getting involved in step aerobics can be a fun way to get a vigorous, aerobic workout. The I Step aerobic exercise combines stepping with hopping moves while you draw the letter I with your feet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your feet together and the platform in front of you. Your toes point toward the long side of the platform.

  2. Step 2

Step up onto the platform with your right foot and then your left foot, so that your feet are together and parallel, just as they were when they were on the floor. In a hopping motion, move your feet to the outer sides of the platform.

  3. Step 3

Hop back to the position of the center of the platform, with your feet together again. Step back down to the floor with your right foot and then your left foot.

  4. Step 4

Separate your feet again by hopping to the sides, so that your feet are 2 to 3 feet apart. Hop back into your starting position, standing on the floor with your feet together.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the routine on 8 beats, like so: step, step, hop, hop, step, step, hop, hop.

  6. Step 6

Continue the exercise to upbeat music for a heart-pumping workout.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to get your arms involved, raise them over your head when you hop to the feet apart position, so that you are doing one full jumping jack each time you hop.
