Step aerobics can provide a great, low-impact, cardiovascular workout. This exercise is called Across the Top because you move across the top of the platform to get from one side to the other.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Position the platform so that you are standing to the left of it, with your right foot parallel to the short side of the step.

  2. Step 2

Step sideways to the middle of the step with your right foot. Then step up onto the platform with your left foot and bring it next to your right.

  3. Step 3

Move toward your right by stepping with your right foot down to the floor. Then step down with your left foot and bring it together with your right.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the exercise in reverse. Beginning with your left foot, move to your left. Step to the middle of the platform with your left foot and follow with your right foot, bringing it together with your left foot. Then, step down to the floor with your left foot followed by your right foot, bringing your feet together.

  5. Step 5

Perform this exercise on 8 quick beats, accompanied by rocking music, for a great workout.

Tips & Warnings
  • When performing step aerobic exercises, maintain good posture. Keep your chest high and your abs tight.
  • Always remember to warm up and cool down before and after exercising.
  • Resist the urge to bounce when stepping on and off the platform. Your moves should be well-defined steps on each beat.
