How to Do Pull Backs in Tap Dance
Tap dancers often refer to the pull back move as a "pickup." To execute a proper pull back, you must first know how to do a brush step, also known as a flap step.
Instructions
-
-
1
Stand with your back straight and your feet shoulder-width apart.
-
2
Put your weight on your right leg. This foot remains flat during the pull back.
-
-
3
Lift your left knee in the air with your foot about 1 inch off of the ground. Shift your weight backwards.
-
4
Do a brush step to the back. Strike the ball of your foot against the floor in a sweeping motion. Do the brush step forward or backward. Push back with your body to make this tap step work.
-
5
Step down onto the ball of your left foot. This gives you 2 distinct tap sounds, the brush and the stomp.
