Kickboxing combines boxing, karate, Thai boxing and tae kwon do. Competitive kickboxers can deliver devastating blows utilizing a jab cross elbow combination. Here's how to hone it.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assume the fighter's stance with the left or right foot forward, depending on if you're right or left handed. Tuck the chin down and put your arms in the guard position. Step forward with the lead foot. Extend the lead arm and form a fist with the lead hand, rotating the knuckles so the palm of your hand faces down.

  2. Step 2

Snap the fist out to the target. Recoil the arm and resume the fighter's stance. Quickly follow the jab with a cross from the other hand. Shift the lead side of your upper body forward, while the other side swivels back. Extend the arm toward the target. Pivot on the ball of the rear foot and drive your weight from the rear leg to the front leg.

  3. Step 3

As the shoulder rotates forward, snap the fist out to the target in a horizontal motion. Recoil the arm and resume the fighter's stance.

  4. Step 4

Lift your elbow horizontally and place your hand near the shoulder, leaving the hand open to avoid tight muscles and slow strikes. Snap the shoulder forward with the elbow in the lead. As the elbow hits the target, retract the arm and resume the starting position.
