In competitive kickboxing, sweep kicks can knock your attacker off balance, giving you an opportunity to strike with a right cross. Here's how to execute this combination.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start in the fighter stance with your dominant foot forward (left leg, if you're lefthanded). Keep your chin down and your elbows inside your body. Shift your weight onto the front leg.

  2. Step 2

Turn the rear part of the body forward. With your rear leg, kick your attacker's foot from the outside, using a circular motion. Make impact with the inside of the foot, and then sweep your foot inside and up.

  3. Step 3

Keep the kick straight and swing through it. This creates the momentum to knock your attacker off balance. Once your attacker's off balance, prepare for the right cross by quickly resuming the starting position.

  4. Step 4

Follow a straight line from your shoulder to your attacker's face, aiming for the chin. Remember to aim for the body to take your attacker by surprise. Keep your elbow tucked, turn your hip slightly and shift your weight to the front of your leg for maximum power.

  5. Step 5

As the shoulder rotates forward, snap your fist out to the target in a horizontal motion. Quickly recoil your arm and fist to the starter's position. Resume the fighter's stance.

Tips & Warnings
  • On the right cross, don't overextend the elbow. This may cause injury or harm.
