Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Assess the space you have laid out for your patio. Note whether it is in the sun or shade for most of the day, if it is protected by any trees and other things that may be important regarding which stone you choose to buy.
Step2
Look over the options you have for patio stone, and try to decide which stone best compliments your patio. Some things to take into consideration are how hot the stone gets during the day, especially if the patio is near a pool where people are walking barefoot, how slippery it will be when wet and if it can withstand the temperatures of the climate you live in.
Step3
Measure the area you are putting stone on. Figuring out how much stone you need is vital for purchasing the material.
Step4
Look into how the stone you have decided on or the ones you are choosing between is cut. This may not seem important, but asymmetrically cut stones can be much more difficult to install and more time consuming, although they do provide a more unique look.
Step5
Determine how much effort and time you want to spend on laying your stones and whether your stone choice suits your preferences.
Step6
Purchase your stone. You need the measurements you took of your patio site to determine how much stone to buy.
