1
Pound your stakes into the ground just outside the location of your border around your patio. Wind some rope around the patio area from corner to corner so you can help find the middle of your patio plan.
-
2
Dig several inches deep into the ground to create your patio foundation. Place your landscaping stone base around the patio area. This helps keep weeds from growing through the stones.
-
3
Lay your gravel around your stone base, and use a rake to even it out. Place a layer of sand over the gravel and smooth that with your rake.
-
4
Start in one corner and lay stones. Make sure the sand goes into all the cracks. Sweep the sand into the cracks to make sure they're all complete.
-
5
Lay down a layer of concrete before you put down your stones if you want to make your stone patio permanent. Once you have the layer of concrete laid, place your stones however you want them. Use mortar between the stones to hold them in place. Don't get mortar on your stones. If you do, wipe it off.
