How to Make an Animated Fire Effect in Photoshop

Photoshop is a fun and productive software that allows users to alter images to their liking. One effect in Photoshop is the animated fire effect. This tool allows a user to transform an ordinary image into a striking work of digital art.

      Create a new document in Photoshop. Click "File" from main menu and then choose "New."

      Generate a new layer. Choose "Layer" from the main menu. Next, click "New" from the layer menu to create the layer.

      Type the words to set on fire.

      Apply the wind filter to the layer. Click on "Image" from the main menu. Choose "Rotate canvas" and rotate the canvas 90 degrees counter clockwise (CCW). Now select "Filter" from the main menu. In the filter menu choose "Stylize" and then click on "Wind." Keep the default settings.

      Affect the image by applying the Gaussian blur filter. Choose "Filter" from the Photoshop menu. Next, click on the "Blur" and on the blur menu choose "Gaussian blur."

      Flatten the layer of the Photoshop image. Select "Layers" from the main menu. Click on "Flatten layers."

      Adjust the saturation. Choose "Image" from the Photoshop menu. Then, click on the "Adjust" option in the image menu. From the adjust menu select the "Hue/saturation" option. Set the saturation level to 100. Adjust the hue levels until the appropriate color appears. Be sure to check the colorize box.

      Copy the image layer. Click on "Layer" from the main menu. Choose "Duplicate layer" from the layer menu.

      Blend the layers of the Photoshop image. First repeat Step 7, but this layer is used for the outer flame. Therefore, change the color as needed. After choosing the correct color, select "Layer style" from the layer menu. From the drop down menu, change the blending mode to "Color dodge."

      Smudge the image. First, select "Layer" from the main menu. From the layer menu, choose "Flatten layer." Second, click on the smudge tool from the left menu panel. With the smudge tool: move over the colored areas until the image has the look of fire rising from the letters.

      Save the Photoshop image. Now that the fire effect is complete, save the file to the hard drive for future use. From the main menu choose "File" and from that menu, select "Save."
