How to Build a Sports Equipment Organizer
Having kids usually mean having lots of sports equipment, and storing it all proves to be a challenge for most parents. In one afternoon, you can take back your garage storage and build this sports equipment organizer, customizing it to suit your specific needs. Build as many boards as you have room for, allowing for ball storage, mitt storage and storage for any other sports equipment you have hanging around.
Things You'll Need
- 12-inch-by-6-foot board, about 1-inch thick
- 1/2-inch diameter wooden dowels
- Level
- Drill with drill bits
- Saw
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
Instructions

1
Hold the balls along the board to determine how you want them placed. Mark where the dowels will go with a pencil by holding the dowels under the balls at an angle so the ball will not roll out. Other things such as baseball gloves can be held up like this as well. Shorter dowels can be added to hang items from them. Dowels should be at least 2 inches from the edge. Make final markings using a level after determining initial placement of the dowels.

2
Drill holes at each mark by going straight into the board, then angling the drill about 30 to 45 degrees, depending on how much of an angle you determined you needed for each ball.

3
Cut enough dowels to fill the holes using the saw. Cut dowels to between 8 or 9 inches long, making sure each dowel is equal in length. Cut shorter dowels to hang other sports items like lacrosse sticks or jump ropes, depending on what type of sports equipment and storage you need.
-
4
Use sand paper to take off any rough edges.
-
5
Squeeze wood glue on one end of a dowel and put the dowel in the hole. Repeat with the remaining dowels.
-
6
Hang the sport equipment organizer in your garage or other storage area using nails, anchored screws or whatever works best for the walls.
