Arkansas's streams, rivers and lakes provide fly fishing enthusiasts with a variety of options with more than 9,700 miles of rivers and 600,000 acres of lakes. Plan your dream fly fishing excursion in the great state of Arkansas.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know your limits and regulations. Arkansas has many fly fishing resources; however, there are also many rules and regulations when it comes to fly fishing. The easiest way to avoid breaking these rules and regulations is to familiarize yourself with them by viewing the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's website.

  2. Step 2

Consider fishing the White River. When you think of fly fishing in Arkansas, you don't usually think about fishing for trout. But a bottom release of cold water from the base of a dam has created one of the best trout fishing spots in the United States in the White River. You can access the river fairly easily along Highway 412.

  3. Step 3

Obtain a license. Arkansas requires residents over the age of 16 to obtain a fishing license. Non-residents can purchase annual licenses or three, seven, or 14-day trip licenses. Arkansas fishing licenses are available online through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission or at many in-state bait and tackle shops.

  4. Step 4

Try fishing a number of different spots in Arkansas. Arkansas is known for being a place where you can successfully fly fish for a number of different types of fish like smallmouth bass. Arkansas has nutrient-rich water.

  5. Step 5

Outfit yourself properly and protect yourself from the bright sun with polarized sunglasses, a hat and plenty of sunscreen. Avoid fly fishing in the middle of the day, when the sun is the brightest and the glare off the water is at its worst.
