Sawhorses are a necessary piece of equipment for anyone working with wood or building with large materials. Folding sawhorses are inexpensive to build and easy to carry because they are lightweight. They are also simple to store when folded. This folding sawhorse takes less than one hour to build and requires just a few building materials.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Saw
  • 4 2-by-4 boards cut to 30 inches
  • 2 1-by-3 foot pieces of 1/2-inch plywood
  • 10 to 16 penny nails
  • Drill
  • Rope
  1. Step 1

Bevel a top edge on each of the 2-by-4 boards. A beveled edge is an angled edge where two boards meet.

  2. Step 2

Place one piece of plywood on a hard, flat surface. Line two of the 2-by-4 boards with a 1-foot edge of plywood. The beveled edge of the 2-by-4 needs to be on the top.

  3. Step 3

Nail the plywood to the 2-by-4. Use two nails to secure each of the 2-by-4s.

  4. Step 4

Drill one 1/2-inch hole through the 2-by-4 boards. This is a pivot point. The hole needs to be 1 inch from the top edge of the boards.

  5. Step 5

Line up the other 2-by-4 boards inside the secured boards. The boards line up at the top to make an upside down "V" shape. Mark the spot where the holes line up on each board. Drill through the marks on the boards.

  6. Step 6

Hammer one nail almost completely through two marks. Leave 1 inch of the nail sitting out of the board.

  7. Step 7

Cut the head off the nails with a saw. Line up the empty holes and the nails.

  8. Step 8

Hammer the nails into the drilled holes.

  9. Step 9

Drill a hole through the middle of each piece of plywood. Thread the rope through the drilled holes and tie a knot at the end.
