A drawer light is a convenient light placed inside a nightstand drawer that turns on when the drawer opens. These lights help people who are always looking through the nightstand drawer but do not want to turn on a light.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Glue
  • Magnetic switch
  • Power source
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Wire
  • Wire clips or tape
  • LED lights
Step1
Glue the magnet to the inside of the drawer. Find the place where the magnet meets the switch on the inside of the nightstand and mark that spot. The magnet needs to be on the inside, front part of the drawer. The switch needs to be on the inside, front part of the nightstand. The two pieces must meet when the drawer is closed.
Step2
Attach the switch to the marked location and attach the power supply. The magnetic switch and power supply are available at home improvement and hardware stores.
Step3
Find a place to store the power supply. If it is thin enough, mount it next to the drawer. If it is to large, drill a hole in the back of the nightstand and mount the power supply on the back.
Step4
Run the wires from the switch and the power supply to the LED lights.
Step5
Attach the LED light to the inside of the nightstand, above the drawer. The light needs to be in the middle of the width of the drawer so when the drawer is open the light shines into the drawer. Secure a screw into the nightstand next to the light. Wrap the light's extra wires tightly around the screw so the light does not hang down.
Step6
Place the drawer in the nightstand.
Step7
Turn the power on and check that the drawer light works. If the light does not turn on when you open the drawer, check that the connections and wires are secure.
