Farkle is a dice game that can be enjoyed by just a few people or with a large group. Add in a few drinks and Farkle can quickly become a roaring success as the entertainment at your next party. Learn to play Farkle and you'll never want to play boring old card games again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 6 dice
  • Paper and pencil for score keeping
  • Cup to shake the dice (optional)
Step1
Gather two or more people together to play Farkle. The more people who play, the more fun the game becomes. Players alternate turns.
Step2
Throw the six dice and either bank the score or set aside one or more of the dice and roll the remaining dice to try for a higher score.
Step3
Figure your score. Each "1" equals 100 points. Each "5" scores 50 points. Three "1s" are awarded 1,000 points. Three-of-a-kind for any other number but "1" equals 100 times the number on the dice.
Step4
Get a score using all six dice and you get to pick them all up and throw them again, adding to the previous score achieved on the first six dice.
Step5
Lose all your points if you roll the dice at anytime and the thrown dice do not have a score. For example, if you threw two "1s" on your first throw, for a score of 200, you might choose to roll the remaining four dice again. If you don't have any score, such as "1," "5," or 3 of a kind on your second throw, then you lose the 200 points you started with.
Step6
Shout "Farkle" if someone doesn't score. A good rule of thumb is to yell louder when they lose more points to rub in their loss.
Step7
Play continues until one player reaches 10,000. Each player gets one last turn to try to beat the winner's score. The final round is often the most exciting part of the game as players throw caution to the wind.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add scoring variations to make it more exciting. A straight or a four-of-a- kind can net a player 1,000, five-of-a-kind equals an additional 2,000, and six-of-a-kind adds 3,000 to a player's score. Make up your own variations, as well.
