How to Make Citrus Scents
Citrus scents leave everything smelling bright, lively and fresh. Make citrus-scented body oil that will last all day or an air freshener that will leave your home smelling fresh and clean longer than anything you can buy at the store. Things You'll Need
- Essential oils
- Spray bottles
- Carrier oils
- Distilled water
- Vodka or rubbing alcohol

Buy essential oils. Choose lemon verbena, lemongrass, bergamot, grapefruit, lemon or orange.

Mix the essential oil of your choice with a carrier oil. For a citrus-scented body oil, combine 2 oz. of carrier oil such as jojoba, olive, sunflower, grape seed or mineral oil, with 10 to 20 drops of essential oil.

Combine the essential oil of your choice with distilled water to make a citrus-scented spray. Use 25 drops of an essential oil per 2 cups of distilled water and 2 to 3 tbsps. of vodka.

Boil the zest of tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, lemon or lime in distilled water until the water reduces to a small amount. Strain out the zest and let it cool. Pour into a small sprayer bottle with 2 tsp. of vodka or rubbing alcohol. Use it as a room freshener.

Use bergamot essential oil in a room spray to relieve stress.
Combine grapefruit with lemon verbena or lemongrass. This combination will give you a little pick-me-up when you are tired.
If these fragrances are not stored in a cool dark place, they may spoil quickly. Consider storing body splashes and room fresheners in your refrigerator. Body oils will be fine if stored in a dark cupboard or medicine cabinet.
Before you invest a lot of time and money into making your own citrus scents, test the essential oils on a small part of your skin to make sure you will not have an adverse reaction to the oils.
