Things You'll Need:
- Pilates equipment of choice
- Yoga or workout clothes
-
Step 1
Become comfortable with intermediate Pilates exercises before moving on to advanced exercises. Advanced exercises provide challenges with breathing and incorporate faster movements from one exercise to another.
-
Step 2
Select a method for learning advanced Pilates. Small group classes and one-on-one instruction provide opportunities to ask questions and learn from trained professionals. Books and videos are other methods of learning.
-
Step 3
Incorporate the Pilates principles into your workout (and your daily life as well): breathing, centering, control, concentration, flowing movement and precision. These principles are the core of Pilates and all must be used to gain full advantage of the Pilates workout.
-
Step 4
Use the Pilates equipment safely and in progression with your Pilates skill. Common equipment includes reformers, trapeze tables (also known as Cadillacs), Pilates chair, ladder barrel and mats. A master instructor can help plan an advanced workout with each piece of equipment.
-
Step 5
Ease off the exercise or reduce the intensity of flow if you experience pain or shortness of breath during advanced Pilates. Regular Pilates workouts can reduce chronic pain and improve body strength and general health.
