Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Start with a clean shower curtain and shower. Wash the mildewed shower curtain in the washer with a load of white towels. The bleach used in the laundry will help kill the mildew and the fabric of the towels have an abrasive quality.
Step2
Clean the tub and shower with a good mildew removing cleaner while the shower curtain is being laundered. You can also use a mixture of water and bleach or borax and water in a spray bottle to kill mildew on the surface of the shower. Vinegar, when used straight, will also get rid of mildew stains.
Step3
Aim the shower head away from the shower curtain to reduce the amount of water that falls on it. Since dampness and humidity aid in the growth of mildew, it's important to keep the shower curtain as dry as possible.
Step4
Close the shower curtain the whole way across the opening when you've finished your shower. Closing the shower curtain stretches out any folds and allows it to drain more thoroughly. After most of the water has drained from the shower curtain, you can move the shower curtain from the inside of the tub to the outside for better air circulation. Don't forget to move the shower curtain back inside the tub or shower when you're ready to shower again.
Step5
Use the fan in the bathroom to remove excess moisture from all surfaces after your shower. The better a bathroom is ventilated, the less chance there is of mildew starting on your shower curtain.
