How to Get Students to Show Respect
Teaching kids to show respect is not something that's accomplished in one day. It takes time and patience to get kids to understand how important it is to respect others. Although it's a tough lesson to teach, getting students to show respect is one of the most important lessons they'll learn in school.

1
Talk to your students about uniqueness. Have them write down the qualities that make them unique. Having respect for others starts with having respect for oneself. After they learn to appreciate their own unique qualities, they can then learn to appreciate and respect the unique qualities of others.

2
Throw a popcorn party for your students when they show respect for one another for an entire week. A popcorn party is an inexpensive and fun way to reward the students for their good behavior. If a student slips up and disrespects another child, don't give up on the popcorn party immediately. Instead, have the student apologize and explain the reason why they felt the need to disrespect the classmate.

3
Have the students show respect for one another by sharing compliments. One by one, get each student to stand up and compliment one of their classmates. By sharing compliments with one another, the students learn that it's much better to compliment than to criticize.
-
4
Make the students stand up and talk about something they really like. Then, after everyone has a turn, have the students get up and choose a student that likes something that they dislike. This gives the students a chance to talk to different people, work out their differences and show respect in the process.

Excellent...You showed examples of respect, but what exactly is respect? I don't buy the golden rule, because there are lots of people, who want to be treated in a totally different way than the way I would like to be treated...
