People have long been interested in hunting for ghosts. Haunted houses, poltergeists and the spirits of long-departed relatives is the playground for ghost hunters. Hunting for proof of apparitions can lead to some spooky places, but can be undertaken quite easily. Getting ghosts on film, however, is another story.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Camera
  • Flashlight
  • Motion detector
  • Electromagnetic field detector
  • Thermometer
  • Notebook

Step1
Do research on reported ghostly encounters in the local area. Locate books and websites about hauntings and urban legends. Find a place known as the site of paranormal activity.
Step2
Scope out the location of the suspected haunting during daylight hours with at least one other person. Find out who is responsible for the property and get permission to hunt ghosts. Look for any potential hazards that could be overlooked in the dark, such as rotten steps or hidden holes in the ground.
Step3
Meet with the group of ghost hunters anytime after dark. Travel to the site of the suspected presence together. Give the spirits time to acknowledge your presence.
Step4
Consult the Electromagnetic Field Detector for fluctuations of 2.0 to 7.0 in the electromagnetic field, which can indicate the presence of spirits. Use the thermometer to measure drastic changes in temperature from one location to another.
Step5
Take photos of the area, even if there is nothing to be seen by the naked eye. Pay special attention to any locations that register on abnormal EMF or temperature readings, or places where members of the group sense anything out of the ordinary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a log of everything witnessed during the ghost hunt.
  • Make a note of any lights or reflective surfaces that could cause a false positive in a photograph.
  • Good places to hunt for ghosts include cemeteries, historical sites, battlefields, churches, schools and theaters.
