The borzoi has a proud, noble manner which perfectly reflects its stately physicality. The borzoi is a type of hound dog. They are very friendly and warm towards people they know well. These dogs are largely controlled by instinct and may wander. Their coats are moderately easy to maintain. Borzois need a bi-monthly general grooming and a full grooming every 6 to 8 weeks.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Slicker brush
  • Scissors
  • Natural bristle brush
  1. Step 1

Use scissors to clip the whiskers, if desired.

  2. Step 2

Brush the dog's coat regularly with a natural bristle brush. You may use dry shampoo when brushing if you feel it's necessary.

  3. Step 3

Clip the hair between the toes.

  4. Step 4

    Bathe the dog.

  5. Step 5

Use a high velocity dryer following a towel dry. The dryer gets rid of extra water and gives the dog a slightly styled look.

  6. Step 6

Refrain from over grooming. The goal of the borzoi's grooming is to make it look as natural as possible yet slightly styled.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clipping between the dog's toes keeps him comfortable and prevents the feet from spreading.
  • Borzois tend to shed heavily, depending on the season.
  • Life expectancy of borzois is about 10 to 12 years.
  • This breed needs plenty of exercise.
  • Feed them 2 small meals a day rather than one large one, and don't exercise them after they eat.
  • If whiskers are clipped, always use scissors instead of clippers. They leave the face of the dog unmarked.
  • It's illegal in some countries to let borzois off their leashes, though this is the best way to let them get exercise. Find out if it's legal in your country. If it isn't, jog with them on the leash.
  • Borzois are prone to bloating, are sensitive to some drugs and can be picky eaters.
