Step 1
Use favorite photos to decorate a staircase. Many of us have numerous photos stored in boxes because we've run out of room for displaying them. Pick a theme, such as travel photos, and put them in identical frames. Hang the photos on the wall following the angle or curve of the staircase.
-
Step 2
Hang a horizontal painting on a staircase wall. Staircases often have large amounts of wall space, making them a perfect spot for hanging odd-shaped artwork that often won't fit on other walls.
-
Step 3
Decorate the wall of a staircase landing by displaying objects that don't work well as focal points in living or family rooms. Consider displaying statuary or small vases on the landing wall. If there's ample room, create an additional storage spot by adding a small chest or storage bench.

Step 4
Note that extensions sometimes built at the top of staircases are often wasted space. Fill them by adding a small table topped with a plant or a vase full of flowers. If wall space is available, hang artwork or a mirror above the table. A mirror can create the illusion of a window by reflecting any natural light that comes into the area.
