Sweet Annie is an annual herb that can grow up to 6 feet tall. It is also known as Artemisia Annua, Sweet Wormwood and Chinese Fragrant Fern. It holds its color and scent well and is often used in potpourris, wreaths and dried arrangements. Sweet Annie has been used for medicinal purposes dating back to ancient China. In recent years it has been used to treat malaria.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Choose a location for your Sweet Annie bed. The herb grows best in full to partial sun and will grow in any type of soil. It's best to plant it at the back of a flower garden because of its potential height.
Step2
Sow seeds in spring after the danger of frost has passed. Press seed 1/4 inch into tilled dirt. Plant in rows two feet apart. Keep the bed moist until plants appear.
Step3
Harvest is late summer to early autumn when buds appear but before they open. You can allow some flowers to open if you wish to reseed, but the plants can overtake your garden if you do so. Sweet Annie reseeds easily and often is found growing wild.
Step4
Spray hairspray on the greens before working with them if you find you have an allergy to Sweet Annie. Many people have violent allergic reactions to the plant.
Step5
Look for small fern-like plants when looking for strays that emerged from reseeding. Allow the plants to grow a few inches, and then move to the new location or pot.
