Step 1
Take medication for any pain. Sometimes doctors will prescribe pain medication, and in other cases you can take over-the-counter pain medications.

Place ice packs on your breasts in the days following your surgery. Ice will help minimize any swelling.

Wear a soft, surgical bra as indicated by your doctor. Typically, you'll wear the surgical for several weeks.

Rest if you need to. Many women will feel weak and lack energy following breast reduction surgery. Resting when you need to will help you feel better and heal more quickly.

Drink plenty of water. Hydration is very important after any surgery.

Apply a moisturizer to your breasts. Moisturizer will help if your breast skin is dry and itchy, but be sure you don't apply any moisturizer to your stitches.

Limit strenuous activity after a breast reduction surgery. This includes exercise, sexual activity and heavy lifting or pushing. Follow all instructions that your doctor gives you for your post-op healing.
