Honey has been used for thousands of years as a calming moisturizer. Even the former Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, used to bathe in honey and take advantage of its skin-softening effects. Only recently has honey been used in modern cosmetic products. Research has shown that honey's antioxidant properties promote circulation and increase blood flow. Stir up a smoothing honey skin lotion and make yourself "bee-utiful." Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Combine 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup milk together in a small bowl.
Step2
Add 1 tbsp. olive oil and 1 drop each of essential oils (if desired) to the milk and honey mixture. Mix thoroughly.
Step3
Warm the mixture in the microwave at 30 second intervals until the honey is melted. Warm the mixture on the stove top over low heat if a microwave is not available.
Step4
Smooth the mixture onto the skin. Apply to face, neck and entire body. Pay special attention to extremely dry areas like elbows, knees and hands. Lather lotion on thickest in dry spots.
Step5
Wait at least 15 minutes before removing lotion. The longer the lotion is left on, the softer the result.
Step6
Rinse lotion off with warm water. Use a clean, damp towel to wipe off any excess lotion before rinsing if necessary.
Step7
Store any remaining lotion in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Warm the lotion before each use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use cream instead of milk for a thicker, creamier lotion.
  • Warm honey slightly before adding to milk or cream for easier stirring.
