How to Enhance Photos With Paint Shop Pro 8

Paint Shop Pro 8 by Corel is photo-editing software that is easy to use while giving very good results. This digital imaging program not only has editing tools to fix problems, but can also enhance photos, so that you get the result you want. Follow these steps to enhance your photos with Paint Shop Pro 8.

1. Eliminate photo areas you don't need by cropping them out. Click the "Crop" tool on the Tool toolbar. Choose the part of the picture you want to keep by placing your mouse over one corner. Then click and drag the rectangle over the image you want. After releasing the mouse, make any adjustments with the border you have created. Then double-click for a new photo in Photo Shop Pro.
2. Select "Image" on the menu bar and open the "Canvas Size" window to resize a photo. Enter the new size in the "New dimensions" box. Check the aspect ratio to keep your photo from appearing distorted. You can also resize a photo's pixels with the "Resize" option in the "Image" menu.
3. Make hazy looking pictures sharper by improving the clarity. Click "Adjust," and choose "Brightness/Contrast." Click clarity. Center the focus point of the picture in the preview window. Use the smallest value for "Strength of Effect," and click "OK."
4. Adjust color with Paint Shop Pro's histogram feature. This graph allows you to lighten or darken an image with a slider.
5. Retouch photos with the "Small Scratch Removal" and "Red-Eye" tools. To remove small defects, select the background layer on the "Layer" palette. Select the area with the defect, and click the Scratch Remover tool. Find the red-eye removal tool in the "Adjust" menu options.
6. Give your photo a different look by flipping or mirroring it. By selecting "Image" and "Flip," you can reverse a photo vertically or horizontally. Mirroring does the same, but leaves the original image alone, so that there are two images that mirror each other. The "Mirror" feature is also located under the "Image" menu choices.
7. Apply special effects to your photo from Paint Shop Pro's "Effects" menu. Find options that you can apply to any part of your photo at different strengths. Some of these choices include 3-D, reflection and texture.
