How to Get Recruited by a College Team in Softball

High school softball players often dream of going to the next level--college softball. However, they get discouraged when they aren't being recruited. Being recruited takes self-promotion--rarely does a recruiter just happen to find a recruit without some help. By taking the time to promote themselves, they can get noticed, and possibly get recruited by a college softball team. Read on to learn more.

1. Ask coaches for letters of recommendation. Any high school or recreational coaches can write these letters. They should focus on the athlete's likelihood of adapting to college softball, and probable contribution to the team.
2. Clip and save newspaper articles. Any articles that focus on personal or team achievements should be kept to show your potential college that you are an asset.
3. Collect video footage. Both game footage and footage of skills in practice are useful. Get a friend or family member to videotape. Ask around for previous games tapes from teammates. Instead of sending full tapes, send clips that especially highlight performance in a compilation.
4. Attend camps sponsored by the college. Camps and invitational tournaments are hosted by the college and the coaching staff. Make sure to perform well at these events, and behave appropriately. This is a great way to make a good impression, and get recruited.
5. Return all information requested by the college quickly. This applies to both the athlete and coaches. If a college requests information, they are most likely interested in the athlete. By returning it in a timely manner, the school can make an assessment quickly.
