Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Buy a clear moisturizing shampoo. Using a clear shampoo reduces the residue that accumulates at the base of the braid, which can cause flaking.
-
Step 2
Braid the smaller braids into several large loose braids. This is to help reduce frizz.
-
Step 3
Pour diluted shampoo and warm water over your braids. Gently massage your scalp, paying special attention to the base of each braid. The natural oils from your scalp get caught in the base of the braid, and it is important to loosen an buildup so that it can be rinsed away.
-
Step 4
Rinse the hair thoroughly. Make sure that there is no residue left in the hair since this can damage the hair and cause flaking at the scalp.
-
Step 5
Squeeze the braids dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing since this can create frizz.
-
Step 6
Allow the braids to air dry. Avoid going to bed before the braids are completely dry. Damp hair promotes the growth of mildew and bacteria buildup.
