How to Make Christmas Ornaments Out of Emu Eggs
Eggs aren't just for Easter any more. By using unusual eggs and different holiday colors to dress them up, you can create incredible Christmas ornaments from emu eggs. Here's a stepwise guide on how to get your own handmade emu egg Christmas ornament.

Design your ornament. On a piece of paper, draw out your design before you begin creating your ornament. This will help you to troubleshoot any potential problems before you begin which will make the project run smoothly.

Empty the eggshell. Using your needle, make a small hole into the narrower end of the emu egg. On the opposite end, create a slightly larger hole. With your needle, pierce the yolk and then shake the contents out of your emu egg over a large bowl. Once you've finished, run water through the egg to wash out any residue. Allow the egg to dry before you move on to the next step.

Transfer your design onto your egg. Use either chalk or transfer paper to block out the design on the egg.

Paint your design onto your egg. It is possible to carve a design into your egg, but if you are new to making Christmas ornaments out of emu eggs, you may want to keep it simple and just paint the egg.

Seal your egg. Before you attempt to attach decorative elements, make sure your egg is sealed and protected. This will minimize the likelihood of breakage before you get to assemble your ornament. Use approximately 3 to 4 coats of lacquer to seal your painted egg. Allow it to dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated area.

Attach ribbon. Before you attach your beads or feathers, cut an 8-inch piece of ribbon. Glue down about an inch and a half of the ribbon to the top of your egg, leaving six or so inches of ribbon. Create a loop around the top of the egg and then glue down the opposite end of your ribbon to your egg on the narrow end to create the ornament hanger.

Glue on your decorations. Your beads or decorative elements can help to mask your ribbon strip so it isn't as visible on the finished product. Take different colored ribbon or stickers to hide your ribbon strip, and add a more three-dimensional look to your emu egg.
