Speed-dating is exploding into popularity. Speed-dating allows single individuals the chance to meet and mingle, without pressure in a safe environment. Speed-dating works by having people rotate to different tables over a period of several minutes.

Instructions

1. Find a speed-dating event. Friends are good sources for local speed-dating events. Check with local coffee shops and other venues which offer social events. For larger cities the phone book and online web sites may provide information on speed dating events.

2. Review the type of date offered. Find speed-dating that offers the specific gender and age range. Themed events based on popular interest are available.

3. Schedule the speed-dating event. Most speed-dating events require registeration one or two days in advance. The fee is normally paid upon registering.

4. Get ready. Speed-dating allows someone to get a first impression. Make sure you're well groomed and dressed appropriately.

5. Show up early. Arrive at the speed-dating event at least 15 minutes in advance in order to complete any necessary paperwork. Put on the name tag and receive a scorecard.

6. Be positive. Smile at each person who shows up at the table. Engage them in conversation and try to find common areas of interest or ideas.

7. Fill out the scorecard which allows you to mark which individuals meet again. Speed-dating companies only give out your phone number when there's a match. Meaning both parties indicated an interest in meeting again.

8. Follow up with the matches. Within 24 to 48 hours after the event ends the dating service provides matches. Contact the person based on initial attraction and arrange to meet again in person.

• If uncomfortable with going out on a date with a match try communicating over the phone and email until you feel more comfortable.

• If you received more than one match be courteous. Call and let the other matches know you are already dating someone.
