It is important to regrip your tennis racquet on a regular basis. Sweat, dirt and moisture can build up in the grip of your tennis racquet after numerous matches. This build up can actually change the way you hold the racquet and affect your swing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the old grip and the staple at the bottom. Start near the head of the tennis racquet and pull off the grip. Clean the racquet of all tape and sticky residue.

  2. Step 2

Unroll a small length of the new grip. Attach it to the butt cap of the tennis racquet. Add a staple for a secure hold if desired, but it's not necessary.

  3. Step 3

Secure the head of the tennis racquet. Place it against your thigh or hip while you regrip the handle.

  4. Step 4

Wind the grip around the racquet. Wind to the right if you're right handed; wind to the left if you're left handed.

  5. Step 5

Trim the grip. When you've reached the head of the tennis racquet, draw a line around the grip. Unwind the grip and cut it along this line for an even stopping point.

  6. Step 6

Fasten the grip. Add the finishing tape to the top of the grip to keep it from unraveling.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you bought grip with a collar, place the collar on the racquet before you begin to regrip. Push it up near the head away from where you're working. It will be easier to add once you're finished.
  • As you wind the grip on the tennis racquet handle don't forget to overlap the grip. On each pass around the racquet overlap the grip by about 1/16 inch.
  • If you choose an overgrip, skip Step One when you regrip your racquet. The overgrip goes on the handle directly over the old grip.
  • Keep the new grip from sticking to itself by removing the adhesive backing a small amount at a time.
