The DVR is a small computer that allows for recording a show with no programming knowledge. This electronic video recorder enables viewers to archive programs and watch them at their convenience. People become faster at using the DVR with practice and knowing how to access the device's options. The Motorola DVR from Comcast takes most of the guess work out of programming. Novice DVR operators should follow the steps to become familiar with basic functions of Comcast's Motorola DVR.

From Quick Guide: Using DVRs
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Record shows different ways. Click the red "Record" button on the Motorola DVR remote control. Go to the "Search" screen and type the first four letters of a show's title to find a show and select the "Record" button. Go to the "TV Guide" screen and select the "Record" option. Choose the upcoming show and hit "Record."

  2. Step 2

Delete shows. Go to the DVR screen that lists recorded shows. Select a show. Click "Delete" from the "Menu" options.

  3. Step 3

Make a series recording. Click the "TV Guide" button on the remote control. Go to the show to be recorded. Click the "Record" button. Select "Create a Series Recording" from Record Menu.

  4. Step 4

Use real-time functions. Hit the double arrows to fast forward or fast reverse parts of a live TV program that is still recording. Click the double line to pause a show and the square button to stop playing a show. The show remains on the DVR. These functions allow you to enjoy TV around your schedule.

Tips & Warnings
  • The series recording menu allows you to record first-run episodes, repeated shows or all episodes of a show.
  • Be aware of space limitations on the DVR. As space gets low, older shows will get "bumped" for newer ones or an error message will pop up reminding you that you are running low on space. Delete the unwanted shows periodically.
