Things You'll Need:
- Asthma diagnosis from a doctor
- Lung capacity tests
- Water
- Flovent prescription
-
Step 1
Seek a diagnosis from a health care provider to see whether you need Flovent and/or other medications. Tell your doctor how many attacks you have suffered, how severe they were and how much time usually passes between episodes.
-
Step 2
Take lung capacity tests to determine your suitability for Flovent or other corticosteroids. These are used to treat chronic asthma that shows frequent symptoms, such as coughing or wheezing, in addition to periodic episodes of breathing difficulties.
-
Step 3
Learn how to use Flovent once it is prescribed. Your doctor will discuss the medication with you, and you should also read the product literature before taking it. The process may differ slightly from other inhaled drugs that you are used to taking.
-
Step 4
Follow your doctor's dosage directions for Flovent. It is usually inhaled in pre-measured doses twice per day, with or without food.
-
Step 5
Prime the Flovent inhaler before your first use, in order to get a full dose. Remove the cap and spray the inhaler away from your face one or more times, according to package directions.
-
Step 6
Prevent and treat daily asthma symptoms with Flovent. Remove the inhaler cap. Exhale fully, and then inhale your dose of the medication slowly and completely.
-
Step 7
Rinse your mouth out with water and spit after using Flovent. This helps to avoid side effects, such as thrush.
