Maybe you're a college student trying to survive on a part-time paycheck or just young, underpaid and trying to cut corners where you can. Or perhaps you want to save money. Now matter what the case, you want to eat cheaply without surviving solely on Ramen noodles. This article will get you on track to eating food without going broke.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An open mind
  • Dedication
  1. Step 1

Make a list of what you'll need before you go to the grocery store. It should include several basics such as pasta, rice, bread, fruits, vegetables, and some kind of meat. Once you've created your list, eat a snack or small meal before leaving. This will help you control cravings at the store.

  2. Step 2

Stick to your list. If you do find yourself grabbing for an item, try to make it as cheap as possible. Instead of Fanta, try the generic brand soda. Instead of microwavable popcorn, buy a bag of popcorn kernels to pop yourself at home. Creative things like this will help you stay within your budget.

  3. Step 3

Make sure you have some variety. No matter how much willpower you have, you will eventually get tired of Ramen noodles. Get a variety of veggies (look for cheaper veggies or ones on sale) to add to your pasta or rice. Grab some fruit (bananas are really cheap) to eat as a snack. Eating a variety is the best way to prevent paying for expensive food on a whim later on.

  4. Step 4

Avoid eating out. Of course you will want to go to your sister's birthday dinner at her favourite restaurant, but limit eating out to special events. The same goes for fast food. The dollar menus may seem cheap, but you can get cheaper (and healthier) food by eating at home.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is better to reward yourself with little treats throughout the week than to splurge all at once. Find ways to make your favourite foods cheaply at home so that you aren't tempted to go out with friends and spend too much money on food/drinks.
