Planning to host an 80's theme party? If you're having flashbacks, or you just like to live the retro-life, a well planned 80's party is sure to be hit.
The first step in planning any theme party is to make sure you have a DJ. Never underestimate the ability of a DJ to make or break a party. The music of the 80s defined the era so it's important to have the right mix of music for your party. Talk to your DJ and let them know if you want more mainstream 80s music or more new wave alternative 80s. Also ensure your DJ has the appropriate lights for the event. Blacklights, strobes, and mirror balls were all popular during the 80s.
Step2
Encourage your guests to wear 80's costumes. Costumes help add to the theme and an 80's costume is pretty easy to come up with. Once your inspired, head to your local thrift shops to piece together your outfit. Think about your favorite movies from the 80's like Ferris Bueller, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club and what they were wearing. You can also create an outfit based on your favorite 80's music stars like Cyndi Lauper, Flock of Seagulls, Wham!, and many others. Think neon, leg warmers, and lots of hairspray!
Step3
A great way to add some optional games to the evening is to set-up several board games that have their origins in the 80's. Board games like these Milton Bradley classics are sure to be a hit: Operation, Connect Four, and Trouble. Garage sales or online trading sites will likely make it easy to obtain these games if you are unable to locate them on the dusty shelves of your attic or basement. Another great way to bring some gaming to the party is to locate a genuine or replica video game from the 80's. Pac Man anyone? Have a tournament or just let people play for fun.
