How to Fireproof a Christmas Tree!

Evergreens are loaded with essential oils and turpentine which are highly flammable. When they dry out they are downright explosive! The chemicals used in this solution are used to fight forest fires, and they are just as effective on a Christmas tree or evergreen wreaths.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gallon container/bucket
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • Alum
  • Boric Acid
  • Borax
  1. Step 1

    Place 1/2 gallon of lukewarm water into a gallon container. NOT HOT!

  2. Step 2

    Stir in:
    1 cup of Alum
    4 ounces of boric acid
    2 tablespoons of Borax.

  3. Step 3

    Stir well to dissolve and slowly add warm water to fill the gallon container to the top. Not Hot Water!

  4. Step 4

    Place solution in a spray bottle and spray the tree thoroughly before setting up. Let the tree dry. If you have any solution left over, pour it into the water in the tree stand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do this outside to avoid fumes and staining carpet!
