How to Dust a Mini Blind

To dust a mini blind, wipe horizontally the front and back with the convex side of the slats facing roomward then again with the concave side facing in. One mini blind takes about half and hour to clean. Move slowly enough for the sprayed paper towels to remove the dirt and keep the slats from moving too much. Factory-moistened dusting towelettes can also be used. Dirt transfers from the slats to the paper, proving the mini blind is cleaner.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Household paper towels or several dust cloths.
  • Dust-removing spray to treat the folded paper towels with as you dust.
  • A waste basket lined with 13 gallon trash bags.
  • Some books to put under one end of the waste basket to catch the excess mist when spraying a paper towel or dust cloth.
  • A “clean enough” attitude or you’ll spend all week cleaning one mini blind.

Step1
Fold a paper towel in half then in half again.
Step2
Wearing rubber gloves, spray the folded paper towel with dusting spray, holding it before a tipped waste basket so the spray bottle can remain vertical.
Step3
With the convex side of the slats facing the room, slowly wipe the left top section of the blind from left to right. Do so again lower then lower until you’ve finished the section. Do the wider sections half a section at a time. At the end of each half section get a clean paper towel surface, spray it and do the next half section.
Step4
Get between the blind and the window and do that side.
Step5
Turn the slats over and wipe both sides of the mini blind again, using short left to right rows from top down as before.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only wipe from left to right.
  • Wipe slowly enough for the swing of the blind to help you.
  • Don’t get upset that the mini blind isn’t totally clean when finished dusting this fast. Cleaner would mean scrubbing one slat at a time or sending the mini blind to a repair shop.
