If you're anything like me you read articles on eHow all day long. Here are some keys on how to rate an article and be fair. There are 6 factors you should use to judge how to rate an eHow article.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer
  • The ability to read
  • Common Sense

Step1
The title and graphics will tell you if you want to read the article or not... 1. Content is important. If it's not something you would want to know about it has no value. Therefore, it gets no rating as you won't read it in the first place. Otherwise, content is worth one point.
Step2
2. The number of steps are important. The more steps there are the more likely you are to find that this is something worth reading. 3 steps means it's simple. 10 steps means you really need to pay attention. Anything beyond that can kill the value of an article. You now have 2 stars that can be used.
Step3
Images in an eHow article 3. Images are tantamount to a good article. You can have 300 steps of detail, but without visual aids an article loses merit and credibility. Images add visual prompts to supplement the steps you are reading. Text labels and details add to the value of an image. You now have 3 stars that can be given.
Step4
4. Video makes for an automatic star. If a person has video on their article it is definitely above and beyond the rest. You could have 4 stars to award now.
Step5
5. Tips and warnings. Both of these areas can be the true foundation of an article. If there are tips and warnings that clarify little areas of the overall article, you have a winner. While the technical areas of an article are important, the tips can add the one special twist that puts it over the top. So far, if you have all of these points you also have a 5-Star article.
Step6
6. Details will make or break an article. Too few details makes you look like a 3rd grader and too many make you look condescending. A good balance of details is important. If the article makes you comfortable to read it, than it gets a star. If it makes you feel dumb, it loses one.
Step7
Every article gets a minimum of one star. If all of these steps count then it is definitely a 5-star article. Just remember; if you read it, you might as well rate it. Rating articles helps all of us.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be fair.
  • Rate the way you would want to be rated.
  • Remember that it is all about making us ALL better.
  • Don't be offended if you get a low score from someone.
  • We are all entitled to our own opinions.

on 6/24/2008 This is a good article about criteria for rating but I still don't know how to make the stars show up. I've started clicking on the stars near the article title and once I leave a comment I notice the rating increases. Does that mean I can't rate an article unless I comment on it?

on 6/5/2008 Good article. I only wish there was a step on how to rate the article.....how to get the stars to show up. My computer is making things difficult. Again, great article.
