How to See Capri

Capri, a short ferry ride from Naples, Italy, has been a romantic hideout for everyone from the Emperor Tiberius to current movie stars and the rich and famous. The exotic island, correctly pronounced "CAP-ree," is also home to the famous Blue Grotto, an underwater cave. Here's how to enjoy it by day and in the evening.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a ferry from Naples. The ferry departs regularly from Naples' Stazione Marittima. Once on the island, you can take a funicular or a bus to the town of Capri, where you can find hotels, shops and cafes.

    • 2

Visit some of Capri's interesting nightspots. Although the island is famous for its daytime sightseeing and swimming, and visitors are often day-trippers from Naples, there is plenty to do there in the evening. However, the nightlife season usually lasts only from late April until September.

    • 3

Start your evening adventures with a visit to a popular nightclub such as Number Two, at Via Camerelle 1, or stop by the Piazzetta for a drink. If dance clubs aren't your thing, try the more rustic Taverna Guarracino, Via Castello 7, for some wine or beer or look for other bars and cafes in Capri's historic center.

    • 4

Join Capri natives in people watching at the Bar Tiberio, on the Piazza Umberto 1. If you happen to be in Capri over the New Year's holidays, you can enjoy music, pageants and even fireworks. During the summer, June through September, outdoor concerts are among many lively evening events. Find information at the local tourist information office.
