Badugi is a four-card lowball poker game with worldwide popularity. Originating in Korea, Badugi can now be played on various websites, in local poker rooms and even in some Las Vegas casinos. While it may appear simple and easy to win, this game is deceivingly challenging and equally addictive.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One 52-card deck
  1. Step 1

Deal four cards, one at a time, to each player.

  2. Step 2

Fold, bet or raise based on your initial hand. Any hand of all four suits (Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs and Spades) is a true Badugi with the best hand being an Ace, 2, 3 and 4 of four different suits. You can only play one of each value and one of each suit in your hand. For example, a hand with an Ace of Clubs, 2 of Hearts, 5 of Spades and 5 of Diamonds will have to drop one of the 5s and will only be a 3-card hand. Likewise, a hand with a 3 of Hearts, 6 of Hearts, 9 of Diamonds, and 10 of Clubs will have to drop the 6 of Hearts. Any 4-card hand always beats a hand of fewer cards, and in two hands having all 4 suits, a 5, 7, 10, Jack beats a 2, 4, 5, King because the first hand has the Jack low.

  3. Step 3

Draw from 0-4 cards to make a better hand. As with other poker games, you must turn in your unwanted cards before receiving new ones.

  4. Step 4

Fold, bet or raise again based on your new hand and the other players' bets. Use your best judgment to decide if you have the winning hand.

  5. Step 5

Draw from 0-4 cards again based on what will give you the best hand.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat Steps 4 and 5.

  7. Step 7

Conclude by performing Step 4 one more time.

  8. Step 8

Show your hands and determine who wins.
