Your yard might look great now, but come December, you can lose all of that landscaping that looked so great during the warmer months. Of course, there are a few things you can do to protect your front and backyard from destruction. Check out these tips and save your yard from winter frostbite.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Maintain a weedy section for the butterflies in a small portion of your lawn. In December, in North Texas, the eggs, chrysalises, or larvae of the butterflies will live in these sections, and will hatch in the warmer weather.
Step2
Watch for the parsley worm, which like to eat parsley, carrots and Queen Anne's lace in December. Maintaining a landscape in North Texas is a year-round proposition.
Step3
Prune the tent larvae from the trees by removing the section just before the webbing. Leave the netting torn open so that the birds can eat them.
Step4
Test your soil in December, in preparation for the spring growing season. Send in a soil sample to the Texas A & M University, or other laboratories found in the phone book for testing. The University or laboratory will test for the nutrients in the soil, and will give you good tips on the fertilizers and nutrients you may need to add to your landscape.
Step5
Divide any of the perennials you did not divide earlier in the year. By doing this, you prevent the perennials from overcrowding.
Step6
Prune your woody plants in late December.
Step7
Work organic matter into the garden in December in preparation for the spring planting.
Step8
Plant tulip bulbs and hyacinth bulbs in December. They'll bloom in spring. Plant other spring bulbs as well.
Step9
Provide irrigation for the lawn during December and the drier winter months.
