Celebrating Valentine's Day the old fashioned way does not have to be a thing of the past. With some careful planning and a lot of creativity, you will be on your way to a Valentine's Day of yesteryear. Paper hearts, handmade Valentine cards and sweet treats are all part of a Valentine's tradition present and past.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Make heart shaped sugar cookies. Use pre-made sugar cookie dough, or make them from scratch.
Step2
Decorate the cookies with pink and white frosting. Add plenty of red, pink and white candy sprinkles for extra fun. Use gel frosting to pipe your Valentine's name on each cookie.
Step3
Wrap a box in white paper or Valentine's wrapping paper. Stack the cookies in the box, adding a sheet of waxed paper between layers. Close the box and tie it with a ribbon.
Step4
Make a card from construction paper or card stock. Embellish the card with cut-out hearts, buttons, ribbon and other festive items.
Step5
Write a heart felt note inside the card. Attach the card to the box of cookies.
Step6
Play old fashioned games. Visit the Old Fashioned Living website for game ideas (see Resources below).
Step7
Learn the words to an old fashioned love song, and sing it to your sweetheart. Try "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," "Heart of my Hearts" or "I Love You Truly."

on 6/8/2008 This is a good idea with costs to high now. You can make up a colorful box with crate paper and a slot at the top for you group or kids! Each person can add the valentines to the box.Empty and pass out during your party. This is how we did it in the good ole days!
