Measure the length of insulation that you need to reach from the ceiling to the floor at one edge of the wall you are going to insulate.

    • 2

Unroll the batt of insulation and measure a piece that is the same dimension as what you will need to reach from the ceiling to the floor. Cut it with the razor knife.

    • 3

Position the ladder next to the wall so that you may lift the strip of insulation to the ceiling. Make a nice tight fit with no air gaps or open space.

    • 4

Staple the strip in place on both sides of the strip. Place a staple every foot or so into the stud on either side of the space where the insulation is being placed.

    • 5

Move the ladder to the next space for insulation to be installed and repeat Steps 1 through 4.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tightly packing the insulation will decrease the amount of heat loss you will experience.

  • If you have extra small pieces left over they may be used in other places in your house or tossed into the attic to help insulate the roof.

  • Care should be taken when handling insulation. It is made of fiberglass and will penetrate skin. Use gloves when handling it and keep a shirt on to minimize skin exposure.
