The hula dance is an ancient dance that was, Hawaiians believe, first performed by a god or goddess. The dance was performed as a part of a ritual honoring the gods, though today, the dance is performed more for entertainment. If you are a dancer who loves the hula, it is possible to earn a living performing this ancient dance.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Learn to hula dance. You can find teachers in the area, especially if you live in Hawaii, by looking in the phone book or online.
Step2
Perform in fairs or shows in the area. That way you can gain exposure. If your performance is memorable, people will be more likely to remember you and ask to have you perform at private events.
Step3
Create a business card and website with pictures of yourself and video clips of your hula performances. Be ready to hand out business cards wherever you go. Make sure your website address and contact information (but not your home address) is on the card.
Step4
Make lots of fliers and post them everywhere there's a bulletin board (but ask for permission first). Leave fliers at music stores, part stores and other shops.
Step5
Update your website by including testimonials following each performance. Be certain to include updated pictures.
Step6
Contact the tourist office if you live near a city where hula dancers are part of a tourist attraction. You can present them with your website information as well as testimonials.
Step7
Go to every posted audition for hula dancers that you can find. With enough persistence, especially if you are constantly practicing and working to improve your craft, you will be cast. Add each performance in which you take part to your website.
Step8
Participate in the Merrie Monarch festival. There's no better place to be noticed as a hula dancer.
