If you are relocating or want to sell or buy a vehicle online, you may be wondering how you will get your car moved from one location to another. Shipping a vehicle is easy, as the auto transport company you choose will take care of almost everything. There are several important things that you should expect when shipping a vehicle.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call an auto transport company to make arrangements and discuss costs, insurance and how long the transport will take. The farther in advance that you book your shipment, the better the company will be able to meet your scheduling needs.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the pick up at your home, or as close to your home as possible, if you have signed up for door-to-door service. Otherwise, meet the mover at a specified location. Since this could be at any time of the day, you will usually receive a call from the company within 24 hours of when the mover will arrive.

  3. Step 3

Watch the mover perform the initial inspection for your "Bill of Landing." This will detail what condition the vehicle is in at the time of pickup.

  4. Step 4

Wait as your car is transported from your original location to your destination location. The time frame will vary from company to company, but cross country transports generally take one to two weeks.

  5. Step 5

Meet the mover at your home or nearest possible location for delivery. Once again, this can occur at any time of day, so you will likely receive a call from the company within 24 hours of your vehicle's arrival.

  6. Step 6

Observe as the final inspection for your "Bill of Landing" takes place. This will detail what condition the vehicle is in when it arrives at the destination and any new damages that may have ocurred.

  7. Step 7

Sign off on your "Bill of Landing" and get back to driving your vehicle.

Tips & Warnings
